Kilkenny Vintage Design Studio at 11 Irishtown Kilkenny. It has to be one of the coolest places in Kilkenny for the up and comming trendie to shop for original vintage design furniture.

At last Original Compulsive Design have finally got themselves together and have opened their doors to the public in the heart of Kilkenny city. Its been a while in comming but worth the wait. A vintage design store in Kilkenny . Very cool pieces of furniture, lighting, ceramics and art from the the 1950’s to 1980’s.
Please check out Fritz Hansen, Herman Miller, Tapio Wirrkalla, G-Plan, Shcreiber, Parker Knoll, Anglepoise, Arkana and much more.

Vintage, Retro, Retro Modern, Retro Chic, Mid-century Modern, 20th Century and Modern design to name but a few catch phrases for this collectible furniture.

There seems to be a growing market in Kilkenny for vintage design furniture, lighting, art and this is reflected in the decor of the citys Hotels, Nightclubs, Cafe’s and Bars.

Kilkenny gave us the Kilkenny design centre and now we have the birth of the Kilkenny Vintage Design Studio in the heart of irish town, speacialising in original pieces of very cool furniture.

Original Compulsive Design

Today I came accross two 1970's brown leather swivel armchairs in a barn in Cloneen Co Kilkenny. One has a rip in the seat cover and they both have faded in colour a little over time, but besides that they seem okay and are definitely a good example of modern design, vintage design, mid century modern and vintage 20th Century design. I will add a picture of them to the blogg in a little while, as for now they are still in the barn waiting there for me to rescue them and resurrect them to their former glory, YEEHAW hotdog.

The vintage 20th Century boy

I've been recovering from a very hectic weekend, flew to Denmark then to Belgium to visit my vintage design tribe and then onto the Dam and picked up some nice zero zero . My whole purpose in Denmark was to buy a Hans Wegner original 1950's sofa made from pure wool with an amazing beutifull rosewood and teak base. And this was a beutie, an absolute stonker, I was drooling dribble at the very sight of it and I got an erection thats how nice this sofa was, just ahhhhhmaaazing.
The sofa belonged to the dutches of Copenhagen and once she saw me salivating and all horney ( and got wind that I was going to flog it for a huge profit) she got cold feet on the deal and would'nt let the sofa out of her sight.
How naff is that!!!.
So unfortunately no nice photo of a 1950's original Hans Wegner sofa.
( hoorray i hear you say)

Hi my name is Noel and I run a new Irish online vintage design store. We are based in Ireland, Kilkenny and this is going to be my first blogg. Finn Stone is a british designer and I have I included a picture of his chairs that I have in my online store. He is a very cool designer. The name of our online store is Original Compulsive Design and we are trying to provide vintage design items at accessible prices, which is not that easy when you are based in Ireland. We don't have a great history of vintage design furniture in Ireland, so, sourcing items in Ireland is difficult, as the stock is not here!! its getting better though. Sourcing nice vintage design furniture can be time consumming and this can carry hidden costs re shiping etc, but we will try to be as competitive as we can in this growing market.
