Just sitting here in my Vintage Design Shop in Kilkenny enjoying the sunshine.. This is a Vintage 1970s Eames EA214 soft pad lounge chair on a rare 4 star base, lovely leather and in great condition, its four point Eames universal base characteristic of the first phase of production of these chairs, and white nylon glides, which are also true to that time period. I recently sold this stunning Eames chair and I am very happy with the sale. Just to let you know, I will be bringing a Danish Bucket chair with me to the Brocante Market on the 17th of April. The Retro Rooms Show in The Holliday Inn, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast this weekend Sunday the 6th March 2011 is a must for all vintage hustlers, mid century freaks and modern design minglers. Vintage at the Brocante Sunday 16th January 2011

Vintage Furniture at the Brocante Market this Sunday the 16th of January Newmarket Square Dublin 8 just off Cork Street, a very nice day to chill out and have a lovely experience browsing through all the goodies on offer and having a very nice coffee and one of the best ciabattas in the business from Luca, Aisling and Co.

The Brocante Market is becoming the main and "in" place for followers and enthusiasts of original vintage furniture, lighting, ceramics and art.

Many vintage dealers sell at the Brocante and use it as their main window for the public to come and view their wares. The atmosphere is always top notch and the venue is excellent with the added advantage of parking for those who drive. The cafe has to be experienced, fantastic authentic Italian food and wonderful fresh Italian cuisine and coffee at affordable prices which is what we all like to hear.

Vintage furniture sellers; Original Compulsive Design ( thats me) Richard Harte (coolretro), Killian from Mid Century Online, Geoff Kirk, Kirk Modern, Andy Vayne hitmeinthevayneline, Paul Bryne Retrorumage, Selina Gittens Eclectic Designs, Robbie and his missus from TLC and many more.

There is a great eclectic mix of furniture styles at the Brocante Market and you will always be stimulated with designs ranging from vintage to edwardian, bricabrac to contemporary screen printing. For this Brocante on Sunday, January 16th 2011, I will have a lovely G-Plan 1950s table and chairs set, a 1960s Danish Lounge chair, a pair of Guzzini ceiling lights, a white Anglepoise lamp, a 1960s Avalon chest of Drawers from the 1960s and a range of other goodies.

The last time I did the Brocante Market at New Market Square on Sunday I sold a very nice vintage John and Sylvia Reid table and chairs set from the 1970s, a faux leather swivel chair, a 1960s very cool leather stool, a cute tripod lamp and a few other bits and bobs.

What a wonderfull Eric Kirkengaard chair, I sold a beautiful set of four, during the summer, a truly amazing comfortable chair from a classic Danish designer.

Just back from a very successful buyimg trip and have lots and lots of goddies for the Vintage deprived. However, things are getting better for lovers of vintage furniture, with more sellers of vintage furniture than ever befor here in the green isle. Fuse Interiors, Kirk Modern, Richard Harte, Andy Vayne, Retrospect, Wildchild and Retrorumage to name but a few. Also the emergence of the Brocante Market at Newmarket Sqaure is a breath of fresh air and a well needed platform for the sellers of vintage design, long may it continue to expand and develope.

Hi, been busy sucking on a wurthers original, busy with the shop and seeking out retro furniture and trying to update the website. We have sold some very nice pieces recently and are always adding to our collection. The website is harder to manage re updating with new stock as things sell before you can get the time to take a pic and do the text and then you have to edit the exsting page, all time consumming etc. Any way I have added some pics of things we havew sold that were not on the site, please keep an eye as things are always comming and going.

I admire websites who offer links to other simmilar sites and are open to healthy competition. Offering links is a good way of building up a network of friends who deal in the same business as the one you are in and this is a positive and constructive way to opperate. Especialley if you are only opperating online. People will navigate away from the site they are viewing and go off and find all kinds of relevant sites, links, and this is fact, will always come back to your site if you have what they are looking for at the price they can afford, and they will keep comming back if you are competitive, offer good knolledge base and if they like your site. Hi our new vintage design studio has just opened in Kilkenny. We have been trying to open a vintage design shop for nearly two years now and we are very relieved that we have achieved it. We tryed to open up in Thomastown but what with flooding and bad timming, it just didnt happen, so you can imagine that we are very very happy to announce, that we are based in 11 Irish Town, which is at the bottom end of the high street in the oldest part of Kilkenny. The shop has been used as a car showroom and prior to that it was a bar and it has a real nice ambience. We have tried to keep it simple, to keep our concept clear and to let the furniture speak for itself. Why not come a visit us for your retro and vintage design needs.

At last Original Compulsive Design have finally got themselves together and have opened their doors to the public in the heart of Kilkenny city. Its been a while in comming but worth the wait. A vintage design store in Kilkenny . Very cool pieces of furniture, lighting, ceramics and art from the the 1950’s to 1980’s.

Today I came accross two 1970's brown leather swivel armchairs in a barn in Cloneen Co Kilkenny. One has a rip in the seat cover and they both have faded in colour a little over time, but besides that they seem okay and are definitely a good example of modern design, vintage design, mid century modern and vintage 20th Century design. I will add a picture of them to the blogg in a little while, as for now they are still in the barn waiting there for me to rescue them and resurrect them to their former glory, YEEHAW hotdog.

The vintage 20th Century boy

I've been recovering from a very hectic weekend, flew to Denmark then to Belgium to visit my vintage design tribe and then onto the Dam and picked up some nice zero zero . My whole purpose in Denmark was to buy a Hans Wegner original 1950's sofa made from pure wool with an amazing beutifull rosewood and teak base. And this was a beutie, an absolute stonker, I was drooling dribble at the very sight of it and I got an erection thats how nice this sofa was, just ahhhhhmaaazing.
The sofa belonged to the dutches of Copenhagen and once she saw me salivating and all horney ( and got wind that I was going to flog it for a huge profit) she got cold feet on the deal and would'nt let the sofa out of her sight.
How naff is that!!!.
So unfortunately no nice photo of a 1950's original Hans Wegner sofa.

Finn Stone is a british designer and I have I included a picture of his chairs that I have in my online store. He is a very cool designer. The name of our online store is Original Compulsive Design and we are trying to provide vintage design items at accessible prices, which is not that easy when you are based in Ireland. We don't have a great history of vintage design furniture in Ireland, so, sourcing items in Ireland is difficult, as the stock is not here!! its getting better though. Sourcing nice vintage design furniture can be time consumming and this can carry hidden costs re shiping etc, but we will try to be as competitive as we can in this growing market.
